Victoria Park in 2024 - Rolling On
w/e 06 October 2024

All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300

The year is rolling on and we're now into the final quarter of 2024. Whether it's the meteorological date (September 1st) or the equinox (22nd or 23rd September) which is also known as the astronomical autumn, we're now officially in autumn.

Park Gates

Although there is still a little time to go before the full beauty of the season is revealed, the autumn colours were already beginning to appear as we approached the Drummond Road/Bristol Road gates at the entrance to the park.
Green Swathe

There's still a green swathe running through the park though in the central area where the former flower beds have been replaced by grass.
Fallen Leaves

The grass surrounding the bandstand however is already acquiring a covering of leaves.
Golden Leaves

More golden leaves will soon be falling to join them but at the moment are outnumbered by the green ones still on the trees.
Signpost

This was another dogless month but we did spot this substitute, a postal delivery vehicle anchored with its "lead" to a signpost whist mail is being delivered nearby.
Trio

Not only was October a dogless month - we had met and befriended dogs in eight of the previous nine - but people were also noticeable by their absence. Perhaps the missing flowers have discouraged human presence but they are also missing the various colours of the trees like this trio on the Manners Road side of the park.

Boughs

Seen through the boughs of one of those three the sun was streaming down through the leaves. It made a change from all the rain we've had recently with half the average month's rainfall occurring in the first few days of October.
Central Area

I had expected the ground to be waterlogged but it was surprisingly firm. Either all the water has run off or sustained the green leaves on the trees like these in the centre of the park which are only just starting to turn.
Drummond Road

The evergreens will obviously retain their colour but there are still plenty of leaves on the deciduous specimens waiting to fall. The ground along Drummond Road, seen here from the pergola, will soon be littered with a golden carpet.
Wild Rose

There may not be any formal flower beds in the park any more but as we left the park, one of the last things we spotted was a wild rose by the gates.
