Sunshine
w/e 05 May 2024
All of this week's
pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300

A month by month look at Ilkeston's
Victoria Park in 2024 - Part 05 May.

The weather has continued in its unsettled mode but as we approached
the Drummond Road/Bristol Road entrance for our monthly look
at Victoria Park at the beginning of May, it turned out to be
the warmest day of the year so far - and the sun was shining!

That little bit of sunshine and new growth on the trees and shrubs
makes all the difference to the feel of the park and it looks
so much better now that the ground is no longer waterlogged.
|
![Bluebells](240505/24050503.jpg)
Flowers too are springing up and bluebells are sprouting in the
shelter of the shrubs by the pergola.
|
![Maintenance Work](240505/24050504.jpg)
We were not the only ones taking advantage of the fine weather.
Maintenance work was in hand as drains were being cleared, grass
was mowed and no doubt , weeds were being removed too.
|
![Green Leaves](240505/24050505.jpg)
The white blossom, photographed four weeks ago, on the trees
in the circular beds at each end of the central area had all
disappeared to be replaced by fresh green leaves.
|
![Forget-me-nots](240505/24050506.jpg)
The preparatory work on the bowling green last month had paid
dividends as a game was in progress as we walked by and the border
outside the bowling green had another good display of spring
flowers with forget-me-nots being prominent.

![Tia](240505/24050507.jpg)
As we have seen in previous months we are usually approached
by at least one dog in need of a fuss and this time it was Tia
who made our acquaintance before posing with her metal friend
at the gate to the bowling green.
|
![Exit](240505/24050508.jpg)
Leaving Tia behind we headed towards the Bristol Road/Manners
Road gates exit from the park.
|

Before we reached the gates though another friend, this time
of the feathered variety, landed on the path and looked appealingly
at us. Unfortunately we didn't have any seed with us.
(Mental note: Bring some bird food next time)
|
![New Bed](240505/24050510.jpg)
As we made our way back through the park
along the Manners Road side, we noticed a new bed was being prepared.
I think last year there were a lot of wild flowers in this area
so we'll keep an eye on it to see what the future months bring
forth.
