Ilkeston - Prelude To Spring
w/e 15 February 2026
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300 camera

After another week of dull, overcast and rain filled days, Saturday dawned cold and frosty but with blue skies it promised to be a prelude to spring.

Victoria Park

Crocuses on Victoria Park also heralded to upcoming season.
Bristol Road Side

As usual despite the wet weather, the spring flowers were starting to bloom all the way up the Bristol Road side of the park.
Yellow Crocuses

The predominant colour was yellow but purple ones are not far behind.
Daffodils

There are even daffodils springing up and a few clumps of snowdrops too.
Garden of Remembrance

The Garden of Remembrance by St Mary's Church is also showing signs of spring with a scattering of crocuses.

Behind Cantelupe Centre

Behind the church and the Cantelupe Centre, it's snowdrops that are the prominent flowers.
Snowdrop Bed

Here they are predominantly in large beds.
Smaller Clump

But there are a few smaller clumps too.
Churchyard

In the corner of the churchyard where cremated remains of loved ones have been buried, the snowdrops are mingling with the floral tributes left by the memorial plaques.
Sheltered Spot

And in a sheltered spot by the wall, daffodils are also beginning to open. This brief prelude to spring lasted all of one day and although winter is beginning to draw to a close, the latest weather forecast does contain a warning of possible snow showers. Let's hope the flowers aren't blooming too early.
