Ilkeston - Prelude To Spring
w/e 15 February 2026
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Nikon D3300 camera
After another week of dull, overcast and rain filled
days, Saturday dawned cold and frosty but with blue skies it
promised to be a prelude to spring.

Crocuses on Victoria Park also heralded to upcoming season.
|

As usual despite the wet weather, the spring flowers were starting
to bloom all the way up the Bristol Road side of the park.
|

The predominant colour was yellow but purple ones are not far
behind.
|

There are even daffodils springing up and a few clumps of snowdrops
too.
|

The Garden of Remembrance by St Mary's Church is also showing
signs of spring with a scattering of crocuses.
|

Behind the church and the Cantelupe Centre, it's snowdrops that
are the prominent flowers.
|

Here they are predominantly in large beds.
|

But there are a few smaller clumps too.
|

In the corner of the churchyard where cremated remains of loved
ones have been buried, the snowdrops are mingling with the floral
tributes left by the memorial plaques.
|

And in a sheltered spot by the wall, daffodils are also beginning
to open. This brief prelude to spring lasted all of one day and
although winter is beginning to draw to a close, the latest weather
forecast does contain a warning of possible snow showers. Let's
hope the flowers aren't blooming too early.
