Ilkeston - It's Raining - Still!
w/e 08 February 2026
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300 camera

When I logged on to the internet on Saturday morning one of the first headlines I saw was this: 'There is "no end in sight to the rain", forecasters have warned, despite downpours having lashed Britain every day in 2026.' As I had taken no new photos during the week for this week's update, it called for a walk through the town to see what I could get - the resulting images were as depressing as the weather. Things can only get better!

Saturday Market

The Saturday Market.
Bath Street

There were very few shoppers about on Bath Street.
Lower Market Place

Just one stall on the Lower Market Place.
Car Park

The Albion Centre Car Park had plenty of vehicles parked but where the occupants had gone remained a mystery.
Closed Shops

They certainly weren't in the empty Farmfoods shop which closed recently nor Henry George which has been closed for some time.
Select

Select is another shop that has recently closed its doors to customers in the Albion Centre. I've always tried to portray Ilkeston in a positive light but sights like this make it more difficult. I must point out though that there are still lots of local businesses trying to make a living running small independent shops on Bath Street and elsewhere in the town.

Seats

In the rain though there was not much call for the seats on Bath Street.
Puddles

Wherever you went in town, there were puddles like here at the end of Station Road.
Pothole

Potholes are a serious hazard to motorists, not only in Ilkeston but nationwide and rainfall has increased that hazard as there's no telling how deep the hole is.
Rain-splattered Windows

The weather showed no sign of improving so it was back on the bus to head home. The image on the left is through the rain-splattered window in the bus shelter on Wharncliffe Road and the view from the bus window on the way home was no better. The forecast for next week is pretty much the same and so depressing. If you think you are suffering from seasonal affective disorder (SAD) you'll find it "is a type of depression that usually happens in the winter. Treatments include antidepressants, talking therapies and light therapy." I find a spot of sunshine works wonders so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and putting a smile on my face.
