Kirk Hallam - Around The Lake
w/e 18 May 2025
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300

The fine weather continues and we enjoyed a walk around Kirk
Hallam Lake off Godfrey Drive in the warm May sunshine. From
the car park we walked towards the welcome sign.
|

We turned at the sign to follow the path down to the lakeside.
|

Then we started a walk around the lake in an anti-clockwise direction
which meant that for most of the circuit the sun would be on
our backs.
|

We've been to Kirk Hallam Lake many times before but this public
art sculpture was new to us. A little online research reveals
that it unveiled at the back end of 2024 having been commissioned
by "Big Kirk Hallam". It was inspired by the local
community and the rich industrial heritage of the area. Called
"The Ground Remembers" it is intended to educate future
generations about the history of the area and commemorate those
from the past. To learn more about the project please visit the
Facebook group The Big Kirk Hallam Sculpture Project.
|

The artwork is perfectly sited offering a lovely view across
the lake.
|

Nearby the artwork is evidence of that industrial past with the
remains of a wall that formed one side of a lock on the old Nutbrook
Canal.
|

The industry may be long gone and the only disturbance now to
the peace and quiet at the rear of the lake is the splashing
as birds land in the water.
|

A small island in the lake serves to enhance the peaceful atmosphere
in this part of the circuit.
|

But as we returned near to Godfrey Drive a welcoming committee
was waiting - or was it just a family outing?
|

As we returned to the car park it became obvious that it wasn't
just a family outing, it was a whole community of Canada Geese
with dozens of goslings.
