Derby - Random
w/e 16 March 2025

All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300

There's no real theme to the images on this page as they are just a few random shots taken on a walk around the city centre.

St Peter's Church

St Peter's Church as seen from East Street.
The Concord

This new development, an apartment block called The Condor, has sprung up on Victoria Street on the site of an old retail store. Many will remember it when occupied by Debenhams and before that it was Ranby's. The most striking thing about the new building is that it is two to three times higher than its three storey predecessor.
The Strand

The Condor may be a more efficient building and be more environmentally friendly than many of Derby's older buildings but it will be a long time before it is regarded as being as elegant as those nearby on The Strand.
Derby Cathedral

The 212-foot (65 m) high tower of Derby Cathedral is said to be the second highest in England after Boston Stump.
Amen Alley

Amen Alley runs by the side of the Cathedral.
Cathedral Green

The Statue of
Bonnie Prince Charlie with the former Silk Mill, now The Museum of Making in the background, stands in the area known variously as Cathedral Green and Silk Mill Park.

Artwork

Artwork on the Museum of Making of two Peregrine Falcons, created by urban artist Sarah Yates after being commissioned by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, was inspired by the birds that nest on the Cathedral tower.
Riverside Gardens

The Riverside Gardens can be accessed from several places. This is from Derwent Street by the side of the Council offices.
Pigeons & Turtle

Pigeons seem to have colonised the Riverside Gardens despite the presence of a turtle sculpture although they were giving it a wide berth.
Exeter Bridge

The Exeter Bridge crosses the River Derwent and is seen from the Riverside Gardens.
