Ilkeston - Crocuses &
Daffodils
w/e 06 March 2022
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Kodak DX6490
Whatever else is happening
in the world, nature's clock keeps ticking and in Ilkeston it's
moved on to crocus and daffodil time. I've taken many photos
like these before but with such a good display at various places
it would be a shame not to do it again.
These purple crocuses are in the Garden of Remembrance next to
St Mary's Church.
|
Also at the same place in the garden, mini daffodils are starting
to open at the side of the steps. I believe this variety is called
tête-à-tête'.
|
There are bigger daffodils at the eastern end of the church.
|
And in the churchyard overlooking the Lower Market Place both
large and small varieties of daffodils are growing alongside
a good display of late flowering snowdrops.
|
I wonder how many people at the Saturday market also noticed
the crocuses and daffodils on the bank near the church entrance.
|
Anyone walking or driving along Bristol Road cannot fail to notice
the swathe of crocuses in Victoria Park - an annual treat for
all who pass by.
|
The same can be said about Cantelupe Road where more varieties
and colours of crocuses are opening up to accompany the early
flowering yellow variety that opened first on the hills and holes
of 'Illy 'Oleys (Chaucer Old Park).
|
Also on the park daffodils planted by Council workers with the
aid of Gardening Club members of Chaucer Junior School a few
years ago will soon be adding to the colour of the surroundings.
|
At the beginning of February when we visited Stanton Road Cemetery
the crocuses were just starting to show but now they exploded
into a carpet of colour.
Several war graves in the cemetery are now surrounded by crocuses
that now create an annual tribute.
|
Yes it's been done before and no doubt will be done again, but
you can't let crocus and daffodil time pass without recording
the event to enjoy at any time of year.
