Ilkeston - Along The Canal
w/e 31 May 2020
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
We've still not been far from home despite the slight
easing of the lockdown restrictions but did manage a walk on
the towpath of the Erewash Canal one sunny afternoon to pick
up some essential shopping from the Waterside Retail Park, taking
these images on the way.
We joined the Erewash Canal at Green's Lock and followed the
towpath. In this first section of the canal were several clumps
of yellow flag irises.
|
We shared the towpath with birds, walkers and cyclists but the
swans stayed in the water. There were actually two swans but
one is hidden behind the foliage.
|
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this duck is a young teal.
|
This is Potter's Lock with some of the many cyclists that passed
us.
|
A swathe of yellow greeted us just beyond the squeeze stile after
passing the lock.
|
Buttercups.
|
And a moorhen.
|
There were a lot of lily pads but we saw only one flower poking
through the water.
To record this photo as your favourite
from this week's selection vote for "Water Lily" below.
|
There were also two more swans in addition to the two we saw
earlier.
|
As we neared the steps up to Station Road we passed two boats
and after doing our bit of shopping returned home down the other
side of the canal.
