Ilkeston - Spring In The Park
w/e 08 March 2020
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
Meteorologically spring began on March 1st but the
astronomical season does not begin until the vernal equinox which
varies from year to year between the 19th and 21st of the month.
In 2020 it falls on Friday March 20th but whichever date you
choose, the signs of the season are beginning to become apparent
as can be seen in these images taken in Victoria Park.

Entering the park from the Drummond Road/Bristol Road corner,
blossom is one of the first signs to be seen.
|

Primulas surround the bandstand and are just beginning to flower.
The plaque celebrates the restoration of the park on August 20th
2017.
|

Mini daffodils are also coming into flower on the bank below
the bandstand.
|

The central beds have also been planted up but the wet weather
has not done the park many favours. The display will surely get
better as time passes.
|

The rain though doesn't seem to have done the purple-leaved plum
tree any harm as it is full of blossom.
|

The most colourful part of the park at the moment lies alongside
Bristol Road where beds of crocuses are flowering. Beneath the
branches of the plum tree there's a patch of pale yellow flowers
that I don't recollect seeing here before so presumably they
are new this season.
|

The yellow crocuses are worth a closer look.
|

Purple and white crocuses spread all the way along Bristol Road
up to Drummond Road and there are also the green shoots of daffodils
yet to bloom.
|

They also continue the other way running like a river down towards
Manners Road. Even for the passing motorists they are always
a delight at this time of year.
|

Even though not yet at their best, this close up shot of some
of the purple flowers promises some fantastic views in the next
few weeks. In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, no doubt, "I'll
be back!"
