Ilkeston - Lest We Forget
w/e 10 November 2019
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490

As Remembrance Sunday neared Cadets like these seen on Bath Street
on Saturday were out in force collecting for the Royal British
Legion's Poppy Appeal.
|

Many premises in the town centre had been displaying commemorative
images all week like this one at Legs Wine Bar on South Street.
|

Also on South Street a number of shops had window displays -
this one was in the Lighthouse Charity shop.
|

The Sunday Service of Remembrance and Commemoration led by Revd.
Andrew Baguley began in St Mary's Church and was attended by
the Mayor of Erewash and other civic dignitaries together with
members of the Royal British Legion and other organisations as
well as the general public.
|

The congregation then left the church to continue the service
in the Market Place around the Cenotaph.
|

The official party gathered with the public on the Market Place
to await the arrival of the parade of uniformed groups.
|

The parade was led by Ilkeston Brass.
|

The service continued at the Cenotaph, now led by Revd. Cliff
Winfield (left above) Chaplain to the Ilkeston Branch of the
Royal British Legion and included an Act of Homage and the two
minute silence at 11 o'clock. Prayers were said by Revd. Baguley
(right above).
|

The two minute silence was impeccably observed by all present.
|

Wreaths and Poppy Crosses were then laid around the Cenotaph
by the civic party and representatives of all the groups present
before the parade continued out of the Market Place to bring
this year's commemoration to a conclusion..

The wreaths and crosses though will remain as a permanent reminder
of the sacrifice made by so many in the two World Wars and other
conflicts since for our freedom today.
