Heanor - May Day Event
w/e 12 May 2019
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Kodak DX6490

May Day is obviously the first day of the month but the Early Spring Bank Holiday is on the first Monday in May. In Heanor on that Monday each year the Heanor & Loscoe Town Council present their May Day Family Fun Day in Heanor's Market Place and here are some images from this year's event.

Big Bus

At one end of the Market Place the Dream Party Play Big Bus was parked for the entertainment of the children.
Hook A Duck

Nearby a Hook A Duck stall was proving popular too.
Treat Box

The Treat Box full of traditional and old fashioned sweets was also open for business and would no doubt soon be tempting customers.
This Way Round

A gentleman in a red tail coat certainly had his hands full whilst trying to direct children on a variety of conveyances to circle in an anti clockwise direction and more than once had to jump out of the way of a wayward vehicle.

Stiltwalker

There were also Circus Skills activities, balloon modelling and a stiltwalker was blowing bubbles much to the enjoyment of at least one little girl. In the marquee, face painting was also very popular.
Alice

Also in the marquee were representatives of the Council alongside Alice in Wonderland with a couple of fairground horses that had apparently appeared in a 1940s film.
Artist

An artist had a number of his works on display, several of them on car door panels and was currently engaged in painting a lifelike portrait of a parrot.
Corn Snake

The marquee was also the location of a Petting Zoo that included rabbits, Leopold tortoises and other creatures including corn snakes, one of which is seen above with the young lady looking after all of them.
Fundraisers

There were various fundraisers on site one where you could pick tickets from a bucket in the hope of selecting a winning number all in aid of raising money for the Air Ambulance charity.
Market Stalls

The rest of the Market Place was occupied by various craft and charity stalls and thankfully the weather stayed fine for the whole event which must have been very pleasing for the organisers.
