Ilkeston - Mainly Yellow
w/e 17 March 2019
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
We often hear talk of the colours of autumn with
golds, browns and yellows being prominent as the leaves prepare
for the winter but there are perhaps just as may hues in the
early days of spring with various shades of yellow being predominant.

The daffodils on the White Lion Square island this year have
been supplemented by the yellow and white of the planting in
the five circular beds.
|

Around the Cenotaph the planting has a variety of colours to
brighten up the town centre but there is still a good amount
of yellow although it is more towards the orange side of the
spectrum.
|

Mini daffodils (Tete-a-Tete) line the steps up to the Remembrance
Garden at St Mary's Church.
|

More line the wall in front of the church along with a smattering
of crocuses. What these photos don't show is the force of the
wind that was blowing when they were taken but fallen branches
and twigs are evidence of the effect it has had.
|

It's not all about daffodils, even the tulips in the garden at
the church entrance are yellow.
|

And there's a fine display of forsythia by the path leading down
to the Albion Centre from East Street.
|

With a gale blowing I had to hold this stem of forsythia steady
with one hand whilst using the other to take the photo.
|

In the more sheltered location of Chaucer Junior School it was
daffodils to the fore again.
|

This display on 'Illy 'Oleys was planted a few years ago by the
Council's Green Space Team ably assisted by pupils from Chaucer
School. The Team incidentally are responsible for all the public
display beds around the town in the parks and on the traffic
islands.
|

They also care for the grounds at Park Cemetery but these windswept
daffodils at the entrance are looking a bit the worse for wear
do the the strong gusts that have been blowing all week. But
whether it's cloudy or grey the yellow at this time of year adds
a little bit of sunshine to our lives.
