Ilkeston - Forties Garden Party
w/e 01 July 2018
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490

It was back to the Erewash Museum for this set of images as the
annual "Swing Back to the Forties" event was held this
year under the guise of a "1940's Garden Party" on
June 23rd.

High Street was partially closed for the duration of the event
as a number of vehicles were parked in the grounds of the museum
and a Military Police vehicle typical of the 1940s was parked
outside the entrance.
|

Visitors however were welcomed to the event to the sound of bagpipes.
|

Ladies dressed in period costume handed out programmes and welcomed
everyone.
|

It wasn't just ladies in costume either although I don't suppose
miners from this industrial community looked quite as smart in
the 1940s as these two gentlemen.
|

A selection of vehicles reminiscent of the era were parked in
the forecourt.
|

Prominent amongst them was this recently restored Fordson Pattisson.
Although originally purchased a little after the 1940s by Ilkeston
Borough Council in 1952 for ground maintenance on the Rutland
Recreation Ground it was sold by the authority in 1978 but was
bought for the Erewash Museum in 1997. In the last couple of
years it has been fully restored to its former glory.
|

As the volunteers mingled among the crowd more old vehicles were
worthy of closer inspection in the grounds of the museum.
|

A large military Autin assured everyone "We Were There"
in 1944.
|

There were displays and events going on all afternoon and it
was standing room only on the lawn where seats were at a premium
at this popular event. The glorious weather was a bonus and helped
draw all ages to enjoy the entertainment.
|

Johnny Victory performed as usual with his selection of songs
from the period and The Festival Swing Dance Society showed popular
dances from the 1940s in what once again proved to be one of
the most popular events in the museum's calendar.
