Stanley Common - Oakfield Farm
w/e 26 February 2017
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
We went out for a drive one afternoon this week looking for inspiration
for this set of images. Our route took us through Stanley Common
and a spur of the moment decision took us into Oakfield Farm
with the intention of buying some meat from the Farm Shop.
|
The farm is also home to Riding Stables seen here on the left
through the gate.
|
One of the residents peered over the stable door as we passed.
|
We made our way round the the shop where we we greeted by one
of three farm dogs that came to meet us.
|
Oakfield Farm is not only home to riding stables,
a farm shop (seen here on the right) but also the place were
beer is brewed in the Nutbrook Brewery.
Bottled beer (left) from the brewery is on sale in the shop as
well as, like most farm shops, a selection of vegetables. The
shelves are also stocked with local produce including Derbyshire
Honey (right).
|
But it was meat we were after , steak and kidney and sausages
in particular. There were several varieties to choose from but
we can heartily recommend the tomato sausage.
|
We were served by the farmer, Andrew who offered to show us round
when I asked about taking photos.
|
He first of all pointed out the sheep that were grazing in the
field behind the farm buildings.
|
He then took us to a stable in which there were two Suffolk Punch
shire horses.
|
Andrew led us to a barn where his herd of Hereford cattle were
feeding on the hay. Am I being a little heartless when I say
they not only look good, they taste good too. We left Andrew
who went back to prepare his next supply of black puddings destined
for the shop. We hope to sample that next time we visit which
we will undoubtedly do soon. Read more about Oakfield Farm at
