All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300
Pewit Coronation Meadows Local Nature Reserve is
scheduled to be officially opened on June 24th 2025 but a few
days prior to that we took a walk through part of the site.

The Nature Reserve has been created on the former Pewit Municipal
Golf Course which became financially unsustainable. A new sign
now graces the entrance to the car park and the former clubhouse
is currently being used by East Midlands Medical Services Ltd.
|

New information boards have been erected and include a site plan
plus room for other temporary notices.
|

Hundreds of new saplings have been planted across the site.
|

New footpaths and benches have also been installed.
|

The site has access points from the Nutbrook Trail and is adjacent
to Straw's Bridge, Pewit Carr and Manor Floods Nature Reserves
and is an important part of Erewash Borough Council's rewilding
project.
|

The site is almost split into two parts by allotment gardens
(see the oblong area in the site map above) but they are linked
by this path which runs almost parallel with the Nutbrook Trail.
|

As we reached the more familiar side of the site - we often walked
by here to and from the Nutbrook Trail - we noticed a circle
in the grass. This was formerly one of the greens on the golf
course but in time it will merge with the surrounding "fairway".
|

We walked back up the hill with the allotment gardens on our
left but the boundary is seen here on the right as we looked
back. The new footpath leading diagonally across the former golf
course follows the same route as its predecessor which was another
grass covered path, marked by intermittent posts, that we frequently
used whilst taking care to be aware of flying golf balls.
|

Near the top of this side of the site, there is a dip in the
landscape and another green used to be high on the other side.
After winter snow the hillside here was a favourite of toboggan
users.
|

A picnic bench is now situated close to the first tee whilst
beyond the boundary of the new Nature Reserve is the Rutland
Sports Park (The Rec) and further still, is the URC in the centre
of the town. Let's hope that these green open spaces so close
and accessible, remain so in the years to come.
