Shipley Country Park - Post Lockdown - Part 01
w/e 18 April 2021
All of this week's
pictures were taken with a Kodak DX6490
With the easing of lockdown and the relaxation of
the rule to stay at home, we were able once again to take a walk
in Shipley Country Park - and what a joy it was too. It's almost
seven months since we were last there so a wander around in the
open air and the spring weather was such a welcome treat.
The last time we were in the park we walked from the Visitor
Centre through the site of the Young People's Forest and
John Wood to Mapperley Reservoir before returning over Shipley
Hill and the Cinderhill Coppice (link).
This time we set off in the opposite direction and headed down
the hill to approach Osborne's Pond.
|
The path leads to what has become a popular feeding area for
all the waterfowl that live on the pond.
|
And there were a lot of hungry mouths to feed as there were about
two dozen bundles of fluff at the water's edge. They were mallard
chicks.
|
We left the pond and climbed up the path towards Cinderhill Coppice.
|
At the top of the hill the entrance to the Coppice was on the
right - that was the way we went on our last walk through the
park in September 2020.
|
This time we turned left and followed the same path we had walked
then but this time in the opposite direction towards Shipley
Hill, seen here in the distance.
|
A number of benches along this path afford good viewing points
over the park, this one looking back over Marlpool and Heanor.
|
We continued on and dropped down the hill to Shipley Lane.
|
A right turn took us along Shipley Lane across Bell Lane on the
right to Derby Lodge.
|
Walking through the garden at Derby Lodge we approached the bank
of Beggar's Walk which was brightly coloured in the Spring sunshine
with the yellow of hundred's of daffodils. A few weeks from now
the yellow will be replaced here when the area will be awash
with bluebells.
