Ilkeston - The Annual Car Show 2026

All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Nikon D3300 camera.
The Ilkeston Heritage & Classic Vehicle Show, often abbreviated
to 'The Car Show', which is usually held in August, returned
to the Market Place, surrounding streets and car parks on Sunday
August 9th and here are just a few images from this year's event.
The show didn't actually officially begin until 10am but of course,
the exhibitors had to be there before that to set up, so I was
able to take most of these photos on my way to church before
the crowds gathered. The Dream Rides team were gathering behind
their vehicle for an official photo.

Bus companies were well represented as usual - Bartons in the
Market Place.

Trent and MGO on Wharncliffe Road with more MGO in
the Market Place.

Motorcyclists were still arriving but this one had found a prime
parking spot near the war memorial.

Steam engine owners were setting up on Wharncliffe Road and more
were arriving too.

A line of tractors stood by the wall on the Pimlico Car park.

Also on Pimlico were two hearses displaying the colours of local
footballing rivals. Sporting foes but united for the final journey.

Military vehicles were parked both on the Market Place and also
on Wharncliffe Road.

Classic vehicles from an age gone by were lined up along the
church wall.
|
Owners of these old sports and
saloon cars probably had the best spot in the show as the sun
moved round and the temperature rose, under the shade of the
trees by the church wall.
Last year a Spitfire was part
of the display on the Market Place but was absent this time.
A fly past however, weather permitting, was scheduled for 3pm
and I was home by then. Sure enough, just before three o'clock
I heard the sound overhead and dashed outside to capture some
distant shots as not one, but two planes, a Spitfire and a Hurricane
from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flew over Ilkeston.
