Kimberley - Love Festival
w/e 16 February 2025

All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300

A contribution of £7,500 by Broxtowe Borough Council from the Government's UK Shared Prosperity Fund enabled Kimberley to stage a ‘Valentine’s Love Festival’ during the week of St Valentine's Day. Beginning on the Monday it promised dazzling illuminations lasting until February 21 and it peaked on Valentine’s weekend with a spectacular laser light displays in Toll Bar Square. These images came from one day during the week and show some of the decorations and love-themed shop fronts throughout the town centre.

Illuminated Signs

Most of the shops had illuminated romantic phrases in their window displays such as these shown above: "
Through love, all is possible", "Show her you love her", "Kiss me now" and "The power of love".
Festival Banner

Banners in the town like this one at Toll Bar Square, advertised the event.
Toll Bar Square

And a large red heart also at Toll Bar Square was also a prominent feature.
Queens Head

More hearts, some red, some white, were attached to buildings and lighting columns, this one being on the Queens Head pub.
Love

The word "Love" was strung across James Street with a similar banner on Main Street too. James Street also had lights strung across between the buildings. I assume these were for the Love Festival and not a remnant of the Christmas decorations.
Chippy

The Olde English Chippy on the corner of James Street also has lights across its frontage and its windows were full of red hearts.
Perfections

The Perfections Nail and Beauty shop on the corner of Regent Street was also strung with vertical columns of red hearts.
Bees Flowers

And next door, Bees Flowers who will be hoping for a good Valentine's Day trade, had a display that included more hearts plus an illuminated sign that said "Isn't she lovely".

Illuminated Slogans

Another selection of illuminated slogans was fixed to the wall above a figure of a mining memorial on Main Street. These read "Kiss me quick", "Je t'aime", "Love is in the air" and "Hold him tight".
Save The Children

In the Save The Children charity shop in the shopping precinct on the comer of Main Street and Greens Lane, a selection of red and white dresses formed the shop window display along with several red heart-shaped balloons.
Hearts

Hearts were a feature in many of the displays whether it be folded paper examples as in Watsons Estate Agents in Main Street or gas filled balloons as in the Card Factory in the precinct. The latter of course would be hoping to do good business selling Valentine's Day cards and then be looking forward to filling their shelves in readiness for Easter! Oh, wait a minute - there's Mothering Sunday before that.
