During West Hallam's Well Dressing Festival 2000, the parish
church of St Wilfrid's staged a Flower Festival depicting the
theme of "A New Beginning". It also housed an exhibition
of prints of paintings by, and in memory of local artist, Michael
Grgeory. A beautifully decorated entrance porch (below left)
was a most welcoming sight at the end of the long approach to
the church.

Inside the church there were flowers everywhere from small posies
to larger arrangements like this one (right) climbing up one
of the pillars at one side of the main aisle.

This display (above) by the West Hallam Methodist Church was
entitled "And a little child shall lead them". Another
display in the window behind merited closer inspection (right).

Inhabitants of West Halllam had been saddened at Easter by
the sudden death of Michael Gregory, who was the instigator of
the Well Dressing Festival as it is today. As the programme of
events stated, it was his vision, enthusiasm and artistic flair
that contributed to the Festival and he will be sadly missed.
If the Festival can continue in future years with as much success
as this year it will be a fine tribute to a talented man.

Michael Richard Gregory
1935-2000
This exhibition of Portraits by Michael Gregory is arranged by
the Gregory family and West Hallam Portrait Group, in memory
of Michael, who died at Easter.
Michael was co-founder of the portrait group, and a very
talented artist. His enthusiasm and creative talent gave the
group a very special quality. Michael was also a devout member
of St Wilfrid's church, lending his creativity to many of its
celebrations.
This is a selected display of Michael's work, in a place
which he loved.
