Ilkeston Cam On Holiday
In South West Wales - Part Ten
Cardigan and the Dyfed
Shire Horse Farm
The
photos on this page were taken on Tuesday 16th July
The Tuesday
of our holiday was another fine day although we did pass through
some low cloud and mist on top of the Preseli Hills as we once
headed north from Saundersfoot. By the time we reached the main
street in Cardigan blue skies were again to the fore. The impressive
building pictured above, the Guildhall,
now houses the town's indoor market.
|
After a brief
look round Cardigan, we set off again for our main destination
for the day, the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm. The farm has a number
of attractions for all ages ranging from an antique corner and
crazy golf to quad bikes and pony rides. One of the most popular
though is the bottle feeding of the calves.
|
Another interesting
display took place in the on-site gift shop where a lady dressed
in the national costume of Wales demonstrated the art of spinning.
|
But the star
of the show was a seventeen hands high shire horse called Duke.
So big in fact that a chair was needed to help with the fitting
of his antique show harness as he stood patiently in the stables.
|
And here is
Duke in all his finery as he paraded in the farm yard where he
posed for numerous photographs with the visitors.
|
A little later
Duke looked just as much at home in his working gear, trudging
up and down the fields harrowing the earth. Such a huge beast
but truly a gentle giant.
