Ilkeston Cam On Holiday
In South West Wales - Part Six
Lower Fishguard
The
photos on this page were taken on Monday 15th July
Believe it
or not but this narrow thoroughfare is the main road (A487) through
Lower Fishguard to Newport and Cardigan. I hardly noticed the
building on the right, "The Ship Inn" when we first
reached the town as I was more intent on finding somewhere to
park.
|
But before
leaving Lower Fishguard we had ventured into the hostelry to
sample a cup of their morning coffee. (Honest) The decor inside
featured many black and white photographs of the town from many
years ago and had a nautical theme - notice the netting and shells
that adorned the ceiling.
|
Prior to our
coffee break I had spent an enjoyable hour on the quay side.
Whether it was the gorgeous weather, the setting, the friendly
natives or a combination of all three I think I found this little
corner of Pembrokeshire the most captivating of all the places
we visited. For ten minutes or so I chatted to one of the locals
as he waited to launch his boat. He too, had been charmed by
the place when he had first visited. He had decided to put down
some roots and buy a cottage and forty years later he still lives
there.
|
I left the
car park and walked the length of the quay side. The first point
of interest was this cannon and the plaque next to it that recalled
the filming of Dylan Thomas' "Under Milkwood" here
in 1971. The film starred Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.
|
The views
and photo opportunities seemed endless and across the still waters
of the harbour the boats bobbed ever so slightly in the morning
sunshine.
|
I wandered
on in front of this row of cottages and became immersed in the
delightful setting.
