Ilkeston Cam On Holiday
In South West Wales 2002 - Part One
Brecon, Saundersfoot
and Tenby
The
photos on this page were taken on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th
July 2002
Our route
to South West Wales took us through Brecon where we paused to
stretch our legs and have a brief look around. Narrow streets
lead to the town square, lined with Georgian buildings where
a statue of Wellington stands outside a hotel of the same name
and in front of the St Mary's Church.
|
A short walk
from the square leads through an arched entrance into Bethel
Square, a shopping precinct where such well-known names as W.
H. Smith, Edinborough Woollen Mill and Boots are prominent. The
Boots shop actually occupies a building that opened in 1852 as
the Bethel Chapel.

We continued
our journey to Saundersfoot and the picture above and the two
below were all taken in the evening sunshine at around 8pm. The
first shows a harbour full of yachts and motor launches and on
the harbour wall just right of centre, two fishing vessels were
being relieved of their catches.
|
Both fishing
boats (coloured yellow and blue) can be seen in this shot as
holidaymakers made the most of the warm weather strolling along
the quayside. Even after eight o'clock in the evening it was
still warm enough to be out in shirt sleeves - something of a
rare occurence this summer!
|
As we returned
to our hotel we were treated to this view of the coast across
the harbour. Not only was the harbour full of boats but spaces
in the car park on the sea front opposite were also at a premium.
|
The next day
we visited Tenby. Although it turned into another fine sunny
day, we did have our doubts when mist started rolling around
the cliff tops at about 9.30am. It soon burned off however and
we made our way to Stackpole Quay.
