Ilkeston Cam on Holiday

All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300
Part 05 - Roundham
We rounded off our first full day on the English Riviera with
an evening stroll to Roundham Head before returning via Goodrington
Sands and Park.
We left our accommodation and climbed the short distance up Alta
Vista Road to Roundham Gardens but then took one of the many
footpaths that lead down to the seafront.
|
Still high on the promontory of Roundham Head we could look across
Goodrington Sands to the Premier Inn which is as far as our evening
walk would eventually take us.
|
There were also views across the bay to Brixham and the Berry
Head Natural Nature Reserve beyond.
|
But for now our walk continued downwards along the path . It
zig-zagged back and forth and was joined by other paths and steps
leading back up to the gardens at the top of Roundham Head.
|
We could have shortened the route by taking a flight of steps
down but continued on the downward path instead.
|
This eventually brought us out, between the beach huts, onto
the promenade where several people were doing a bit of sea angling.
|
Turning left we continued in front of the beach huts to the end
of the promenade.
|
Huge slabs of rock lie at the foot of Roundham Head and I wondered
if at one time of day, the promenade continued all the way round
to Paignton Harbour.
|
As we turned back from the Head and seeing the unstable nature
of the rock face, it did make me wonder about the sense of hiring
or buying one of the beach huts. I imagine insurance would be
hard to come by.
|
Although the sun was beginning to set, it still looked bright
out to sea and the people aboard the pleasure steamer that came
chugging past following the coastline were probably enjoying
the views in the calm conditions.
