The 748th Charter Fair - October 2000

Every October Ilkeston enjoys all the fun of the fair, often including this Gavioli Fairground Organ

The week in pictures.

On Sunday, Council workers measure up and mark out the sites . . . . . . .

. . . . . . By Tuesday, the lorries have arrived and the stalls and rides are starting to be erected.

Nottingham's Goose Fair held at the beginning of October is justifiably world famous but Ilkeston's Charter Fair dating from 1252 pre-dates it by almost half a century and is among the largest and oldest street fairs in Europe.

On Thursday, the Fair is in full swing, the merriment and enjoyment is evident . . . . .

. . . . . And there are "Fair-y Lights" everywhere.

But the Giant Wheel is the centre of attraction.
