Ilkeston - The Switch On Event
w/e 01 December 2024
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Galaxy S20 Mobile Phone.
Advent was still two days away, and Christmas nearly
a month, but on the last Friday of November, Ilkeston saw the
switching on of the Christmas Lights event.

Early visitors to the event could be forgiven for thinking part
of the October Charter Fair had returned with rides, food stalls
and other sideshows on the Market Place.
|

Ilkeston Brass took centre stage in front of the Town Hall to
open the proceedings with a selection of Christmas songs and
carols.
|

The Phoenix Choir followed suit with more Christmas melodies
on the Lower Market Place.
|

The Lower Market Place was also where owls brought from Risley
by BB
Falconry Experiences could be seen.
|

After Ilkeston Brass had left the stage, entertainment was proved
by Michael Bublé and Gary Barlow Tribute acts.
|

What most people had come for though was the switching on of
the lights.
|

And of course, the arrival of Santa Claus on the Town Hall balcony.
|

Stilt Walkers were also in attendance as Santa Claus handed out
sweets to the children.
|

All that was left then was to enjoy the attractions and view
the lights like these on South Street.
|

Thanks to Prince Albert, the Victorians
and Charles Dickens, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without
a Christmas Tree - just hope the real celebration of Christmas
is not forgotten.
