Ilkeston - Christmas Comes To South
Street
w/e 10 December 2023
All of this week's
pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300.
There have been a lot of dark,
dreary, damp days recently but the shopkeepers and traders throughout
the town have been doing their best to brighten the atmosphere.
Not least amongst the traders are those on South Street where
most of them have decorated their premises in the lead up to
Christmas. The sign for "South Street" seen here is
on the corner of the library.
|
Opposite that sign is one of the festive windows at the Ilkeston
Discount Chain Store, one of a number of businesses that occupy
the old Co-Op building.
|
We'll start this look at South Street though at the other end,
where Earls have a tree in each window, and then work our way
back towards the Market Place.
|
The Spanish Bar is bedecked with twinkling lights and three trees.
|
Moores flower shop has a selection of wreathes for sale as well
as the usual array of flowers.
|
The Wedding Boutique and The Suit Lounge have two windows beautifully
decorated with a Christmas theme and this one suggests a white
wedding whether it's a white Christmas or not.
|
And if you have a sweet tooth, Cocoa's across the road from The
Wedding Boutique is sure to satisfy your appetite with a selection
of chocolate and also many other gifts and cards.
|
A little further along the street Thorpes windows will attract
many younger members of the population with a large display of
toys and games that they will be hoping to grace their Christmas
stockings.
|
Back on the other side of the road is the Lighthouse Charity
Shop which also has a selection of well-loved toys and many other
items suitable as Christmas gifts.
|
And opposite is another charity shop, this one supporting Treetops
Hospice, where their window display features not only a tree
but also a wintry scene with penguins and polar bears. There
are of course more premises on South Street which are decorated
but these images give just a flavour of the festive season.
