Ilkeston - Shop Local
w/e 20 December 2020
All of this week's pictures were taken with a Kodak DX6490

South Street

With the COVID-19 restrictions continuing all the pubs and some other businesses are closed. Online shopping is on the increase but smaller independent traders and charity shops are still open throughout the town and, like these on South Street, many are trying to attract business with their festive window displays and are encouraging people to shop local.
Lighthouse Shop

A large Christmas tree dominates one window in the Lighthouse charity shop.
Treetops

On the other side of the road the Treetops charity shop also has a tree and a snow scene featuring a polar bear.
Toy Shop

Every child's favourite shop not only at Christmas is the toy shop and this one is the window at Thorpe's.
Fruit & Veg

The Fruit & Veg shop is not so much a Christmas display but is well stocked with a variety of produce - and don't forget the Brussels for that traditional Christmas dinner!
Cocoa's

Cocoa's is brightly decorated and has a big selection of quality chocolates as well as other goodies that will no doubt end up in many people's Christmas stockings.
Boutique/Lounge

Across from the end of Gladstone Street, the Wedding Boutique and the Suit Lounge are probably looking ahead to increased business in the New Year and have two lovely window displays showing their wares in Christmas settings.

RSPCA Dogs

The RSPCA charity shop has another festive window display and the collecting dogs outside have entered into the spirit of the season with garlands and antlers.
Holly Wreathes

Flowers are popular any time of year but at Christmas holly wreathes come to the fore and there's a good selection at Moore's.
Frosted Window Pane

Earl's Hair and Beauty shop window put me in mind of Frank Sinatra's song "The Christmas Waltz" that begins "Frosted window panes, candles gleaming inside, Painted candy canes on the tree." The same song written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne goes on to conclude with a traditional message that's worth repeating here as we near the end of this pandemic filled year. Let's hope for better in 2021. As Frank Sinatra sang:
"Ev'ry song you hear seems to say 'Merry Christmas, may your New Year dreams come true', And this song of mine in three-quarter time, Wishes you and yours the same thing, too."
Yes MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Stay safe.
