Ilkeston - Window Shopping
w/e 06 December 2015
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
The Christmas lights were switched on last week but
some shops have been getting ready for the season for several
months now. As we are now in Advent, more and more shopkeepers
are getting into the Christmas spirit daily and decorating their
windows with festive displays. This selection of images shows
just a few of them that I saw whilst out with the camera "window
shopping".
This first window is on the Lower Market Place and is part of
the display in the Dragonflies craft shop window.
|
Not far away in Memorable Events, there are a number Christmas
themed products and presumably other names apart from Jacob are
available.
|
When I was a boy the Dandy or Beano annual was a must at Christmas
and although maybe not as popular today with youngsters as they
used to be, they are still available along with other classic
titles in John's News on Bath Street.
|
Since taking this photo. the widow display in Manor Pharmacy
also on Bath Street has been changed but a few days ago, Advent
Calendars took pride of place in the shop window.
|
Charity shops are always nicely decorated at this time of year
and the British Heart Foundation outlet on Bath Street is no
exception.
|
Christmas is a magical time and Harpur and Finch have gone for
a magical window display with a snow white unicorn as the centrepiece.
|
In the Albion precinct another charity shop, the National Hereditary
Breast Cancer Helpline, has two windows and both are full of
Christmas gift ideas.
|
The largest outlet in the precinct, B & M, has many windows
filled with parcels, toys and lights but it is also possible
to see inside the store and observe a large selection of Christmas
goodies.
|
Also in the Albion Centre the Card Factory has had Christmas
cards on sale for several months but the teddy bear in the window
is wearing a sweater declaring "You're all I want for Christmas"
although a slightly bigger size might have been a better fit.
|
And bigger sizes are available nearby in Snap, the shop that
now occupies the former Burton's store where the precinct meets
Bath Street.
These images above show just a selection of the shop windows
on Bath Street and in the Albion Centre but perhaps I should
point out, in true BBC fashion, that other shops on other streets
are available too.
